A character from the The First Law Trilogy by Joe Abercrombie He’s basically a non-noble military officer. In his world being non-noble is a major disadvantage. He starts out being a Captain (I think) and ends up becoming Marshal when his friend Jezal becomes King.
Oh and it was fucking awesome when he killed the prince for trying to rape a girl.
