Summary
Ah, so this is really like 6 interconnected short stories, so there’s not an obvious overall plot. And I’m not sure if this is the name of the first book or the first short story in the first book.
Note: So I guess what I’m fine and confusing is this should be the first book inside of the collection called tales from the dying Earth, which is a collection of four total stories, but this first story has like several short stories within it basically that interconnect.
Well, I’ll just talk about it while I’m reading it. So far Mazirian Went off to chase some mysterious lady turns out her name is T’sain. And like I figured, she actually works for Turjan.
Next, we got to see how Turjan Created T’sain.
After this, we saw how T’sais Got her brain repaired with the help of Etarr
Not sure how to explain Liane the Wayfarer It was a pretty fun story though
Ulan Dhor Ends a Dream Was about Ulan I just remember the story having I guess green people and gray people and they weren’t able to see each other until the spell was lifted and then they started fighting and stuff. It was pretty funny there’s also flying car, which made it really clear clear that this earth was at one point of very advanced earth, and they are very far into the future. Of course, Jack Vance never really hides that he’s pretty upfront with it, but all his stories sort of feel like they’re more fantasy than science, fantasy or science fiction.
Guyal of Sfere is basically a story about everyone trying to get a one up on Guyal. There was like a father and daughter that wanted him to play their flute, and only their flute. Then they became monsters or something, and now some sort of just basically set them up to break one of their serious crimes or something, so it’s sort of funny that everybody’s out to him, and that’s how cutthroat this world is. Oh yeah and he’s searching for The Curator.
Thoughts
- Pretty good
- Took me a while to realize this was going to be a bunch of individual stories and not a singular Novel
- I think this has been called The Dying Earth before (see cover below, and I’ve added an alias)
