Summary
So this is a book by George Orwell, and it’s basically an allegory for the Soviet Union, if I’m not mistaken. We’ll see it’s been a while.
Musta been tired last night, had trouble reading much of it. Basically we’re at a point were the animals have control of the farm and Napoleon and Snowball are setting up control. They just painted the “Animal Farm” sign.
I guess I do like how the intellectual class is represented by pigs. Of course they are smart animals, but this is still a fun metaphor.
Thoughts
- It’s got some good gaslighting in it.
- I do remember Boxer going to the glue factory
- They didn’t have us read much in school
- yeah, I’ve said this before. Basically communism just creates a militant bourgeoisie. This is illustrated with Napoleon beginning to walk upright.
- The revolution was started by Old Major
Excerpts
- Napoleon took no interest in Snowball’s committees. He said that the education of the young was more important than anything that could be done for those who are already grown up.
- all animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others
- “If you have your lower animals to contend with,” He said, “We have our lower classes!”
